What I Do: Creative Audio Production – Radio, Podcasts, Voiceover

VOICEOVER ARTIST

I’ve been voicing professionally since 1997 when I started in radio as a traffic reporter. Since then I’ve voiced everything from commercials to continuity, though I’m probably best known for the viral video, Porn Sex vs Real Sex: The Differences Explained with Food which has had nearly 20 million views – so far! It’s funny, it’s informative and it’s definitely not suitable for work.

If you’re looking for a cool, calm and contemporary sound and occasionally something a bit northern, my USP is British with a twist. Mary Poppins reads Fifty Shades of Grey. Cheeky but classy. Warm, smooth and professional – with a wink!

I’ve recorded for dozens of clients including high-end car manufacturers and software companies. To hear work from some of these, visit the DEMOS page.

THE SOUND POUND

I’m a freelance audio and podcast producer working from my purpose-built professional recording studio in Chelmsford, within easy reach of London.

I’m also available for location recording in other suitable venues. Equipped with portable recorders, a mix of mics (lav and shotgun) I can record up to four people for a podcast, or collect audio for vox pops, interviews, etc.

AUDIO PROMOS / TRAILS PRODUCER

I’ve worked as one of BBC Creative’s freelance radio producers for more than a decade. I produced high profile national trails for Gentleman Jack, Poldark, The Chris & Rosie Ramsey Show and The Green Planet, plus Promax award-nominated and winning promos for The Apprentice and the BBC’s Make a Difference campaign. Click here for examples.

My trail for Audible UK’s The Effect won Bronze at the Promax North America Awards 2022, up against trails from CNN, Disney+ and Hulu.

AUDIO DRAMA PRODUCER

Starting with Eleanor of Aquitaine: Mother of the Pride in association with Tara Arts in 2018, I’ve co-produced docudrama The Space Race, the podcast drama The Effect (both for Audible), a radio soap series Greenborne (B7 Media), Venna’s Planet (AUK); one-off legal drama Barred and Mahabharata Now (BBC Radio 4), with Episodes 3 and 4 scheduled for broadcast in the September 2023.

Out now is Theatre of The Damned, a B7 Media co-production with Metal Rabbit Productions available from Audioteria.

As a podcast producer for Comedy Central I made Robin Ince’s Show & Tell and Utter Shambles.

DIALOGUE EDITING, MIXING AND MASTERING

Years of polishing voice for broadcast has served me well in mixing and mastering work.

This includes commercial campaigns for Digital Radio UK, the award winning podcast series The Big Steal from Fresh Air Production, audio content for Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place app and dialogue editing for Unsinkable, (Indie Podcast Fiction series), Barred (BBC Radio 4) and Theatre of the Damned.
